NRA PPITH teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential for the safe and efficient use of a handgun for protection of self and family, and to provide information on the law-abiding individual’s right to self-defense.
This is an 8-10 hour class spread over a (2) day period. Pre-requsites for this course are:
- NRA Basic Pistol certificate
- NRA FIRST Steps Pistol certificate
- NRA Competitive shooting qualification card
This class includes a secion on Firearms and the Law, and Legal Aspects of Self-Defense. This section will be conducted by a Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) Day 1 is classroom focused in which a section of the class will be taught by a member of local law enforcement.
Students should expect to shoot approximately 100 rounds of ammunition. Students will learn basic defensive shooting skills, strategies for home safety and responding to a violent confrontation, firearms and the law, how to choose a handgun for self-defense, and continued opportunities for skill development.
Course Requirements:
- Completed Pre-Requisite from above (must show proof)
- Full caliber handgun (380 ACP minimum)
- Strong side hip holster
- 100 rounds of ammunition
